Wood Pallets

Stringer Pallets
Deck boards nailed to parallel boards called stringers. Usually 2-way entry, or partial 4-way with notched stringers.

Block Pallets
Deck boards on solid or composite blocks instead of stringers, giving true 4-way forklift entry.

Hardwood and Softwood
Hardwood pallets are heavier and stronger; softwood pallets are lighter and cheaper. Ask the supplier for the load rating.
Plastic Pallets
Consistent size and weight, easy to wash and moisture resistant
Nestable
Empty pallets stack inside each other, which saves space on return trips.
Rackable
Reinforced to span pallet-rack beams. Check the rack rating before use.
Recyclable
At end of life, plastic pallets can be ground and recycled by resin type.
Common Pallet Sizes
48" x 40"
The GMA size, the most common in North America for grocery, retail and general use.
42" x 42"
Square pallet often used for paint, drums and telecom goods.
48" x 48"
Large square pallet often used for 55-gallon drums.
48" x 42"
Often used in the chemical and beverage industries.
Pallet Grades
Grades describe condition. Names differ between suppliers, so confirm what you will get.
Grade A
Little wear, no broken boards, few or no repairs.
Grade B
Normal wear and some repaired boards, fully usable.
Economy
Visible wear, staining or repairs. Often used for one-way shipping.
Heat-Treated Pallets (ISPM 15)
Many countries require wood packaging used in international shipping to meet ISPM 15. Heat treatment raises the core temperature of the wood to 56 °C for at least 30 minutes, and treated pallets carry a stamp with the IPPC mark, a country code, a producer number and HT.
If you are exporting, ask for heat-treated pallets in your request, and check the current rules for the destination country.

Most North American shipments use 48" x 40". If your product or customer needs another size, include it in the request.
Is there a minimum order?
Minimums are set by each supplier and depend on distance. Tell us your quantity and the supplier will say what they can do.
